If your offer letter says 13 LPA, the honest monthly figure is about ₹92,528, not ₹1,08,333. 13 LPA means a cost to company of ₹13,00,000 a year, or ₹1,08,333 a month, and around ₹15,805 of that never reaches you as cash each month. Below, I've worked through every rupee of the gap, line by line, so you can match it against your own payslip.

The numbers use the structure most employers have moved to since the new Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025: basic pay at 50% of CTC, employer and employee PF at 12% of basic each, gratuity provision at 4.81% of basic, professional tax of ₹200 a month and the new tax regime for FY 2026-27, whose slabs Budget 2026 left unchanged.

Full payslip breakdown of a 13 LPA CTC

Read this table from top to bottom. The first block is money your employer spends on you but keeps out of your salary; what remains is the gross pay printed on your payslip. The second block is what gets deducted from that gross before the ₹92,528 reaches your account.

ComponentYearlyMonthly
CTC (13 LPA)₹13,00,000₹1,08,333
Employer PF (12% of basic)₹78,000₹6,500
Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic)₹31,265₹2,605
Gross salary₹11,90,735₹99,228
of which Basic (50% of CTC)₹6,50,000₹54,167
of which HRA (40% of basic)₹2,60,000₹21,667
  of which Special allowance₹2,80,735₹23,395
Employee PF (12% of basic)₹78,000₹6,500
Professional tax₹2,400₹200
Income tax (new regime, incl. cess)₹0₹0
In-hand salary₹11,10,335₹92,528

In plain terms, 85.4% of your CTC is spendable cash. Another 12.0% is saved for you in EPF (₹13,000 a month, earning 8.25%), and 2.4% is the gratuity provision you collect after five years with the employer. Only professional tax are true costs.

Income tax on 13 LPA: zero, and here is why

Tax is worked out on gross salary, not on CTC. Start with the gross of ₹11,90,735, take off the ₹75,000 standard deduction that every salaried person gets in the new regime, and you arrive at ₹11,15,735 of taxable income. That amount then runs through the FY 2026-27 slabs below.

Taxable income slabRateIncome in slabTax
₹0 – ₹4,00,0000%₹4,00,000₹0
₹4,00,000 – ₹8,00,0005%₹4,00,000₹20,000
₹8,00,000 – ₹12,00,00010%₹3,15,735₹31,574
Tax on slabs₹51,574
Less: Section 87A rebate− ₹51,574
Add: 4% health & education cess₹0
Income tax payable₹0
Zero tax, but only up to a point

Your taxable income of ₹11,15,735 is within the ₹12 lakh limit for the Section 87A rebate, so the slab tax of ₹51,574 is fully cancelled. You still have about ₹84,265 of headroom, so a raise that adds less than that to your taxable income keeps you at zero tax.

Which tax regime is better for 13 LPA?

The new regime is the default, and you have to opt out of it with your employer if you want the old one. The comparison below uses two old-regime cases: someone whose only investment is their EPF, and someone who fills the full 80C limit and pays ₹25,000 for health insurance. HRA exemption is left out because it depends on your rent and city.

NewOld (PF only)Old (full 80C + 80D)
Standard deduction₹75,000₹50,000₹50,000
Other deductionsNonePT + PF ₹78,000PT + ₹1.5L 80C + ₹25k 80D
Taxable income₹11,15,735₹10,60,335₹9,63,335
Income tax / year₹0₹1,35,825₹1,09,374
In-hand / month₹92,528₹81,209₹83,413

The new regime wins here, and by a margin: even if you use the full ₹1.5 lakh of 80C and ₹25,000 of health insurance, the old regime still costs ₹1,09,374 more a year. With the new regime already at zero tax, there is nothing for the old regime to beat.

Is 13 LPA a good package?

13 LPA puts you well above the typical salaried income in India. It is common for professionals with roughly three to eight years of experience, or for strong campus offers in tech and consulting. At ₹92,528 a month, you can run a household in a metro, save meaningfully and service a home loan, though big-city rents still take a large share.

PF on full basic vs the ₹15,000 wage ceiling

The law requires PF only on the first ₹15,000 of monthly basic pay. With a basic of ₹54,167, your employer can choose to deduct 12% of the full amount or just ₹1,800. Ask HR which one applies, because it changes both your take-home and your savings:

12% of full basicCapped at ₹15,000
Employee PF / month₹6,500₹1,800
Income tax / year₹0₹0
In-hand / month₹92,528₹1,01,928
Total EPF saving / year₹1,56,000₹43,200

With the cap, your take-home rises by about ₹9,400 a month, but you put ₹1,12,800 a year less into EPF. If you take the cap, consider moving at least part of that extra cash into a SIP or PPF so your long-term saving doesn't quietly shrink.

Salary hike on 13 LPA: monthly impact

Planning your next appraisal or a job switch? This is what 10%, 20% and 30% more on a 13 LPA CTC would actually put in your account each month, after the extra PF and any extra tax:

10% hike₹14,30,000₹98,784+₹6,256
20% hike₹15,60,000₹1,03,873+₹11,345
30% hike₹16,90,000₹1,11,598+₹19,070

13 lakh per annum in monthly terms

LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 13 LPA is ₹13 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹1,08,333 a month of CTC, but only ₹92,528 a month actually lands in your account.

Per yearPer monthPer day (365)
CTC₹13,00,000₹1,08,333₹3,562
Gross salary₹11,90,735₹99,228₹3,262
In-hand salary₹11,10,335₹92,528₹3,042

Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹4,206 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹526 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

14.5 LPA in-hand salary₹14,50,000₹98,623₹55,253

The formula, with your numbers

Basic = 50% × ₹13,00,000 = ₹6,50,000
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹78,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹31,265
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹11,90,735
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹11,15,735 → tax ₹0
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹78,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹0 = ₹11,10,335

What this calculation assumes:

  • Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
  • Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
  • Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
  • Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.

If your company uses a different basic percentage or caps PF, put your own numbers into the CTC to in-hand calculator, or use the quick calculator on this page.
