How your EPF contribution is calculated

Employee contribution = Basic+DA × 12% (mandatory minimum)
Employer contribution = Basic+DA × 12% (split between EPS and EPF)
Interest is credited monthly on the running balance, at the announced annual rate (8.25% for FY 2025-26)

Every month, 12% of your basic salary plus dearness allowance is deducted and deposited into your EPF account, and your employer matches it with an equal 12%. However, part of the employer's share, up to 8.33% of basic and capped at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling, is diverted into the Employees' Pension Scheme rather than your PF balance. Interest is calculated monthly but credited to your account once a year, at the rate EPFO announces for that financial year.

How PF calculator works

Enter your basic plus DA, your own and your employer's contribution percentage, and any existing PF balance. The calculator adds up both contributions each month, applies interest monthly at the current 8.25% rate, and grows your basic pay by your expected annual increment year over year, so the final projected corpus reflects a realistic salary growth path rather than a flat contribution.

How the maturity projection works

This calculator assumes your basic plus DA grows by your expected annual increment each year, contributions continue monthly at 8.25% annual interest compounded monthly, and it adds your existing balance to the running total from year one. It's a simplification. Actual EPFO interest crediting and any partial withdrawals along the way will change your real balance.
