How 7th CPC gross pay is built

Under the 7th Central Pay Commission, your salary is built up from a basic pay figure on the pay matrix, which replaced the old grade pay system, plus Dearness Allowance to offset inflation, House Rent Allowance based on your city's classification, and Transport Allowance. Basic pay stays fixed for the ten year life of a pay commission, while DA moves every six months to track prices.

Dearness Allowance = Basic Pay × DA Rate
HRA = Basic Pay × HRA Rate (27% / 18% / 9%, since DA is 50% or above)
Transport Allowance (with DA) = Base TA × (1 + DA Rate)
Gross Pay = Basic + DA + HRA + TA(with DA)
