27 LPA In Hand Salary: How Much You Really Get Each Month

27 LPA in-hand salary · FY 2026-27 · New regime
₹1,66,431 per month

A ₹27,00,000 CTC leaves you about ₹19,97,168 a year in your bank account, which is 74.0% of the CTC. Income tax under the new regime is ₹3,11,497 a year (₹25,958 a month).

27 LPA means a cost to company of ₹27,00,000 a year, or ₹2,25,000 a month. That second number is the one most people quote, but it is not what your bank account sees. Your employer keeps part of the CTC for its own PF contribution and gratuity, and your own PF, professional tax and any income tax come out before salary is credited. On a standard structure, a 27 LPA package pays roughly ₹1,66,431 a month in hand in FY 2026-27.

I have assumed a typical post-Labour-Code salary structure: half the CTC as basic pay, PF of 12% on basic from both you and the employer, a 4.81% gratuity provision, ₹200 a month of professional tax, and the FY 2026-27 new tax regime (Budget 2026 did not change the slabs). If your offer letter is different, the calculator in the sidebar lets you change these.

Full payslip breakdown of a 27 LPA CTC

The table follows the order your payroll team uses: first the employer's own costs come out of the CTC, which gives your gross salary, and then your deductions come out of the gross.

ComponentYearlyMonthly
CTC (27 LPA)₹27,00,000₹2,25,000
Employer PF (12% of basic)₹1,62,000₹13,500

of which HRA (40% of basic)₹5,40,000₹45,000
  of which Special allowance₹5,83,065₹48,589

Income tax (new regime, incl. cess)₹3,11,497₹25,958
In-hand salary₹19,97,168₹1,66,431

Two lines deserve a second look. The ₹2,26,935 a year of employer PF and gratuity is part of your CTC but never shows up on a monthly payslip. And the ₹1,62,000 of employee PF is not lost: together with the employer's share, ₹3,24,000 a year goes into your EPF account, which currently earns 8.25% (the rate EPFO declared for FY 2025-26).

Income tax on 27 LPA, slab by slab

The tax calculation starts from your taxable income of ₹23,98,065, which is the gross salary of ₹24,73,065 less the ₹75,000 standard deduction. Your employer's PF and gratuity contributions are outside this figure, and in the new regime there is no deduction for professional tax or your own PF.

That is an effective tax rate of 11.5% of your CTC, even though your top slab is 25%. Your employer deducts it as TDS spread evenly across the year, roughly ₹25,958 a month, and adjusts it in the last quarter once your investment proofs are in.

Which tax regime is better for 27 LPA?

The new regime is the default, and you have to opt out of it with your employer if you want the old one. The comparison below uses two old-regime cases: someone whose only investment is their EPF, and someone who fills the full 80C limit and pays ₹25,000 for health insurance. HRA exemption is left out because it depends on your rent and city.

NewOld (PF only)Old (full 80C + 80D)
Standard deduction₹75,000₹50,000₹50,000
Other deductionsNonePT + PF ₹1,50,000PT + ₹1.5L 80C + ₹25k 80D
Taxable income₹23,98,065₹22,70,665₹22,45,665
Income tax / year₹3,11,497₹5,13,447₹5,05,647
In-hand / month₹1,66,431₹1,49,602₹1,50,252

The new regime wins here, and by a margin: even if you use the full ₹1.5 lakh of 80C and ₹25,000 of health insurance, the old regime still costs ₹1,94,150 more a year. To make the old regime cheaper you would need about ₹7,97,277 of total deductions (80C, 80D, HRA exemption, home-loan interest and so on, on top of the standard deduction and professional tax). That is realistic mainly if you pay high rent in a metro or are repaying a home loan.

The one deduction that still works for 27 LPA in the new regime

The new regime removes almost every deduction, but one survives: your employer's contribution to NPS under Section 80CCD(2), up to 14% of basic pay. If your company offers it, you can ask HR to move part of your special allowance into NPS. At 14% of basic, that is ₹1,89,000 a year going into your retirement account instead of your salary.

Current structureWith 14% employer NPS
Income tax / year₹3,11,497₹2,13,217
In-hand / month₹1,66,431₹1,58,871
NPS contribution / year₹0₹1,89,000

Your monthly cash goes down by ₹7,560, but you save ₹98,280 of tax a year and build ₹1,89,000 of retirement savings. The trade-off is liquidity: NPS money stays locked until 60, with only partial withdrawals before that. Note also that employer contributions to PF, NPS and superannuation together are tax-free only up to ₹7.5 lakh a year.

Is 27 LPA a good salary in India?

27 LPA is a senior-professional salary in India, typical of experienced engineers, managers and specialists. With a take-home of ₹1,66,431 a month, the real lever is no longer getting more salary but keeping more of it: tax planning, employer NPS and disciplined investing make a bigger difference at this level than small salary bumps.

Salary hike on 27 LPA: monthly impact

A percentage hike on CTC does not translate one-to-one into your take-home, because PF grows with basic pay and tax can start or step up. Here is what common hikes would do to your monthly in-hand:

HikeNew CTCNew in-hand / monthChange / month
10% hike₹29,70,000₹1,79,268+₹12,837
20% hike₹32,40,000₹1,92,097+₹25,666
30% hike₹35,10,000₹2,04,926+₹38,495

When negotiating, compare offers on in-hand pay and on the fixed part of CTC. Variable pay, joining bonuses and ESOPs often sit inside the headline figure but are not guaranteed every month. You can try any number in the salary hike calculator.

How to split ₹1,66,431 a month

A simple way to plan a take-home of ₹1,66,431 is the 50-30-20 split. It is a starting point, not a rule: in a metro, rent alone can eat most of the 'needs' bucket, while in a smaller city you may save far more.

BucketSharePer month
Needs (rent, groceries, bills, EMIs)50%₹83,215
Wants (eating out, travel, shopping)30%₹49,929
Savings and investments20%₹33,286

Keep in mind that you are already saving ₹27,000 a month through EPF before this budget even starts. Build an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses, about ₹4,99,292 to ₹9,98,584, before you lock money into long-term investments.

The formula, with your numbers

Basic = 50% × ₹27,00,000 = ₹13,50,000
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹1,62,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹64,935
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹24,73,065
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹23,98,065 → tax ₹3,11,497
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹1,62,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹3,11,497 = ₹19,97,168

Assumptions behind every number on this page:

  • Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
  • Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
  • Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
  • Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.
