35 LPA means a cost to company of ₹35,00,000 a year, or ₹2,91,667 a month. After the employer's PF and gratuity share, your own PF and professional tax and income tax, the take-home settles at about ₹2,04,451 per month for FY 2026-27. This page shows exactly how that number is built and what can push it up or down.

The numbers use the structure most employers have moved to since the new Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025: basic pay at 50% of CTC, employer and employee PF at 12% of basic each, gratuity provision at 4.81% of basic, professional tax of ₹200 a month and the new tax regime for FY 2026-27, whose slabs Budget 2026 left unchanged.

Income tax on 35 LPA, slab by slab

Under the new regime the only deduction a salaried person gets is the ₹75,000 standard deduction. Gross salary of ₹32,05,825 minus ₹75,000 gives a taxable income of ₹31,30,825. Employer PF and gratuity are not taxed, and professional tax is not deductible in the new regime.

That is an effective tax rate of 15.4% of your CTC, even though your top slab is 30%. Your employer deducts it as TDS spread evenly across the year, roughly ₹45,001 a month, and adjusts it in the last quarter once your investment proofs are in.

Full payslip breakdown of a 35 LPA CTC

The table follows the order your payroll team uses: first the employer's own costs come out of the CTC, which gives your gross salary, and then your deductions come out of the gross.

ComponentYearlyMonthly
CTC (35 LPA)₹35,00,000₹2,91,667
Employer PF (12% of basic)₹2,10,000₹17,500
Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic)₹84,175₹7,015
Gross salary₹32,05,825₹2,67,152

of which HRA (40% of basic)₹7,00,000₹58,333

Income tax (new regime, incl. cess)₹5,40,017₹45,001
In-hand salary₹24,53,408₹2,04,451

In plain terms, 70.1% of your CTC is spendable cash. Another 12.0% is saved for you in EPF (₹35,000 a month, earning 8.25%), and 2.4% is the gratuity provision you collect after five years with the employer. Only professional tax and income tax are true costs.

Which tax regime is better for 35 LPA?

You can still choose the old regime if it suits you, but it only makes sense if your deductions are large. Below, the new regime is set against two old-regime taxpayers: one who relies only on EPF for 80C, and one who invests the full ₹1.5 lakh and buys ₹25,000 of health cover. HRA is excluded since it depends entirely on your rent.

NewOld (PF only)Old (full 80C + 80D)
Standard deduction₹75,000₹50,000₹50,000
Other deductionsNonePT + PF ₹1,50,000PT + ₹1.5L 80C + ₹25k 80D
Taxable income₹31,30,825₹30,03,425₹29,78,425
Income tax / year₹5,40,017₹7,42,069₹7,34,269
In-hand / month₹2,04,451₹1,87,613₹1,88,263

The new regime wins here, and by a margin: even if you use the full ₹1.5 lakh of 80C and ₹25,000 of health insurance, the old regime still costs ₹1,94,252 more a year. To make the old regime cheaper you would need about ₹7,97,601 of total deductions (80C, 80D, HRA exemption, home-loan interest and so on, on top of the standard deduction and professional tax). That is realistic mainly if you pay high rent in a metro or are repaying a home loan.

The one deduction that still works for 35 LPA in the new regime

The new regime removes almost every deduction, but one survives: your employer's contribution to NPS under Section 80CCD(2), up to 14% of basic pay. If your company offers it, you can ask HR to move part of your special allowance into NPS. At 14% of basic, that is ₹2,45,000 a year going into your retirement account instead of your salary.

Current structureWith 14% employer NPS
Income tax / year₹5,40,017₹3,87,137
In-hand / month₹2,04,451₹1,96,774
NPS contribution / year₹0₹2,45,000

Your monthly cash goes down by ₹7,677, but you save ₹1,52,880 of tax a year and build ₹2,45,000 of retirement savings. The trade-off is liquidity: NPS money stays locked until 60, with only partial withdrawals before that. Note also that employer contributions to PF, NPS and superannuation together are tax-free only up to ₹7.5 lakh a year.

35 lakh per annum in monthly terms

LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 35 LPA is ₹35 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹2,91,667 a month of CTC, but only ₹2,04,451 a month actually lands in your account.

Per yearPer monthPer day (365)
CTC₹35,00,000₹2,91,667₹9,589
Gross salary₹32,05,825₹2,67,152₹8,783
In-hand salary₹24,53,408₹2,04,451₹6,722

Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹9,293 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹1,162 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

Is 35 LPA a good salary in India?

35 LPA is a top-bracket salary in India, usually tied to leadership roles, niche expertise, or large tech and finance firms. A large share of the CTC at this level is often variable or stock-based, so check how much of the ₹2,04,451 monthly figure is truly fixed before you plan around it.

Do you need to file an ITR on 35 LPA?

Yes. Your salary income after the standard deduction is about ₹31,30,825, which is above the ₹4 lakh basic exemption limit of the new regime. Filing is compulsory once income crosses that limit, even though the 87A rebate brings your actual tax to zero. The due date for salaried individuals is normally 31 July.

Filing also builds an income record that banks ask for when you apply for a home loan, a credit card or a visa.

The formula, with your numbers

Basic = 50% × ₹35,00,000 = ₹17,50,000
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹2,10,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹84,175
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹32,05,825
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹31,30,825 → tax ₹5,40,017
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹2,10,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹5,40,017 = ₹24,53,408

The working above rests on these assumptions:

  • Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
  • Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
  • Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
  • Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.
