Here is the short answer first: a 10 LPA CTC works out to roughly ₹71,129 a month in hand. 10 LPA means a cost to company of ₹10,00,000 a year, or ₹83,333 a month. The difference is not a hidden charge; it is mostly money set aside for your own future (PF and gratuity) plus statutory deductions, and I've broken each one down below.
All figures below follow one consistent set of assumptions, so you can compare packages fairly: basic pay is 50% of CTC (the minimum share for 'wages' under the Labour Codes in force since November 2025), PF is 12% of basic on each side, gratuity is provisioned at 4.81% of basic, professional tax is ₹200 a month, and tax is worked out under the new regime for FY 2026-27.
Full payslip breakdown of a 10 LPA CTC
The table follows the order your payroll team uses: first the employer's own costs come out of the CTC, which gives your gross salary, and then your deductions come out of the gross.
| Component | Yearly | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| CTC (10 LPA) | ₹10,00,000 | ₹83,333 |
| Employer PF (12% of basic) | ₹60,000 | ₹5,000 |
| Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic) | ₹24,050 | ₹2,004 |
| Gross salary | ₹9,15,950 | ₹76,329 |
| of which Basic (50% of CTC) | ₹5,00,000 | ₹41,667 |
| of which HRA (40% of basic) | ₹2,00,000 | ₹16,667 |
| of which Special allowance | ₹2,15,950 | ₹17,996 |
| Employee PF (12% of basic) | ₹60,000 | ₹5,000 |
| Professional tax | ₹2,400 | ₹200 |
| Income tax (new regime, incl. cess) | ₹0 | ₹0 |
| In-hand salary | ₹8,53,550 | ₹71,129 |
Two lines deserve a second look. The ₹84,050 a year of employer PF and gratuity is part of your CTC but never shows up on a monthly payslip. And the ₹60,000 of employee PF is not lost: together with the employer's share, ₹1,20,000 a year goes into your EPF account, which currently earns 8.25% (the rate EPFO declared for FY 2025-26).
Income tax on 10 LPA: zero, and here is why
The tax calculation starts from your taxable income of ₹8,40,950, which is the gross salary of ₹9,15,950 less the ₹75,000 standard deduction. Your employer's PF and gratuity contributions are outside this figure, and in the new regime there is no deduction for professional tax or your own PF.
| Taxable income slab | Rate | Income in slab | Tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹0 – ₹4,00,000 | 0% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹0 |
| ₹4,00,000 – ₹8,00,000 | 5% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹20,000 |
| ₹8,00,000 – ₹12,00,000 | 10% | ₹40,950 | ₹4,095 |
| Tax on slabs | ₹24,095 | ||
| Less: Section 87A rebate | − ₹24,095 | ||
| Add: 4% health & education cess | ₹0 | ||
| Income tax payable | ₹0 |
Your taxable income of ₹8,40,950 is within the ₹12 lakh limit for the Section 87A rebate, so the slab tax of ₹24,095 is fully cancelled. You still have about ₹3,59,050 of headroom, so a raise that adds less than that to your taxable income keeps you at zero tax.
Which tax regime is better for 10 LPA?
The new regime is the default, and you have to opt out of it with your employer if you want the old one. The comparison below uses two old-regime cases: someone whose only investment is their EPF, and someone who fills the full 80C limit and pays ₹25,000 for health insurance. HRA exemption is left out because it depends on your rent and city.
| New | Old (PF only) | Old (full 80C + 80D) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard deduction | ₹75,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹50,000 |
| Other deductions | None | PT + PF ₹60,000 | PT + ₹1.5L 80C + ₹25k 80D |
| Taxable income | ₹8,40,950 | ₹8,03,550 | ₹6,88,550 |
| Income tax / year | ₹0 | ₹76,138 | ₹52,218 |
| In-hand / month | ₹71,129 | ₹64,784 | ₹66,778 |
The new regime wins here, and by a margin: even if you use the full ₹1.5 lakh of 80C and ₹25,000 of health insurance, the old regime still costs ₹52,218 more a year. With the new regime already at zero tax, there is nothing for the old regime to beat.
EMI and home-loan capacity at 10 LPA
Lenders look at your net monthly income, not your CTC. Most banks are comfortable when all your EMIs together stay within roughly 40% to 50% of take-home pay. On ₹71,129 a month, that means total EMIs of about ₹28,452 to ₹35,565.
As a rough illustration, an EMI of ₹28,452 supports a home loan of about ₹32,78,509 over 20 years at 8.5% interest. Your actual eligibility depends on your credit score, existing loans, employer category and the bank's own policy, so treat this as a ballpark, not an offer.
PF on full basic vs the ₹15,000 wage ceiling
The law requires PF only on the first ₹15,000 of monthly basic pay. With a basic of ₹41,667, your employer can choose to deduct 12% of the full amount or just ₹1,800. Ask HR which one applies, because it changes both your take-home and your savings:
| 12% of full basic | Capped at ₹15,000 | |
|---|---|---|
| Employee PF / month | ₹5,000 | ₹1,800 |
| Income tax / year | ₹0 | ₹0 |
| In-hand / month | ₹71,129 | ₹77,529 |
| Total EPF saving / year | ₹1,20,000 | ₹43,200 |
With the cap, your take-home rises by about ₹6,400 a month, but you put ₹76,800 a year less into EPF. If you take the cap, consider moving at least part of that extra cash into a SIP or PPF so your long-term saving doesn't quietly shrink.
Salary hike on 10 LPA: monthly impact
Planning your next appraisal or a job switch? This is what 10%, 20% and 30% more on a 10 LPA CTC would actually put in your account each month, after the extra PF and any extra tax:
| Hike | New CTC | New in-hand / month | Change / month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10% hike | ₹11,00,000 | ₹78,262 | +₹7,133 |
| 20% hike | ₹12,00,000 | ₹85,395 | +₹14,266 |
| 30% hike | ₹13,00,000 | ₹92,528 | +₹21,399 |
When negotiating, compare offers on in-hand pay and on the fixed part of CTC. Variable pay, joining bonuses and ESOPs often sit inside the headline figure but are not guaranteed every month. You can try any number in the salary hike calculator.
10 lakh per annum in monthly terms
LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 10 LPA is ₹10 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹83,333 a month of CTC, but only ₹71,129 a month actually lands in your account.
| Per year | Per month | Per day (365) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CTC | ₹10,00,000 | ₹83,333 | ₹2,740 |
| Gross salary | ₹9,15,950 | ₹76,329 | ₹2,509 |
| In-hand salary | ₹8,53,550 | ₹71,129 | ₹2,338 |
Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹3,233 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹404 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

| 8.5 LPA in-hand salary | ₹8,50,000 | ₹60,430 | ₹0 |
| 9 LPA in-hand salary | ₹9,00,000 | ₹63,996 | ₹0 |
| 9.5 LPA in-hand salary | ₹9,50,000 | ₹67,563 | ₹0 |
| 10 LPA (this page) | ₹10,00,000 | ₹71,129 | ₹0 |
| 10.5 LPA in-hand salary | ₹10,50,000 | ₹74,696 | ₹0 |
| 11 LPA in-hand salary | ₹11,00,000 | ₹78,262 | ₹0 |
| 11.5 LPA in-hand salary | ₹11,50,000 | ₹81,829 | ₹0 |
The formula, with your numbers
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹60,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹24,050
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹9,15,950
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹8,40,950 → tax ₹0
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹60,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹0 = ₹8,53,550
What this calculation assumes:
- Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
- Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
- Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
- Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.
