3 LPA In Hand Salary: How Much You Really Get Each Month

3 LPA in-hand salary · FY 2026-27 · New regime
₹21,199 per month

A ₹3,00,000 CTC leaves you about ₹2,54,385 a year in your bank account, which is 84.8% of the CTC. You pay no income tax under the new regime.

3 LPA means a cost to company of ₹3,00,000 a year, or ₹25,000 a month. That second number is the one most people quote, but it is not what your bank account sees. Your employer keeps part of the CTC for its own PF contribution and gratuity, and your own PF, professional tax and any income tax come out before salary is credited. On a standard structure, a 3 LPA package pays roughly ₹21,199 a month in hand in FY 2026-27.

The numbers use the structure most employers have moved to since the new Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025: basic pay at 50% of CTC, employer and employee PF at 12% of basic each, gratuity provision at 4.81% of basic, professional tax of ₹200 a month and the new tax regime for FY 2026-27, whose slabs Budget 2026 left unchanged.

Full payslip breakdown of a 3 LPA CTC

The table follows the order your payroll team uses: first the employer's own costs come out of the CTC, which gives your gross salary, and then your deductions come out of the gross.

ComponentYearlyMonthly
CTC (3 LPA)₹3,00,000₹25,000
Employer PF (12% of basic)₹18,000₹1,500
Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic)₹7,215₹601
Gross salary₹2,74,785₹22,899
of which Basic (50% of CTC)₹1,50,000₹12,500
of which HRA (40% of basic)₹60,000₹5,000
  of which Special allowance₹64,785₹5,399
Employee PF (12% of basic)₹18,000₹1,500
Professional tax₹2,400₹200
Income tax (new regime, incl. cess)₹0₹0
In-hand salary₹2,54,385₹21,199

Two lines deserve a second look. The ₹25,215 a year of employer PF and gratuity is part of your CTC but never shows up on a monthly payslip. And the ₹18,000 of employee PF is not lost: together with the employer's share, ₹36,000 a year goes into your EPF account, which currently earns 8.25% (the rate EPFO declared for FY 2025-26).

3 lakh per annum in monthly terms

LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 3 LPA is ₹3 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹25,000 a month of CTC, but only ₹21,199 a month actually lands in your account.

Per yearPer monthPer day (365)
CTC₹3,00,000₹25,000₹822
Gross salary₹2,74,785₹22,899₹753
In-hand salary₹2,54,385₹21,199₹697

Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹964 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹120 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

Income tax on 3 LPA: zero, and here is why

Tax is worked out on gross salary, not on CTC. Start with the gross of ₹2,74,785, take off the ₹75,000 standard deduction that every salaried person gets in the new regime, and you arrive at ₹1,99,785 of taxable income. That amount then runs through the FY 2026-27 slabs below.

Taxable income slabRateIncome in slabTax
₹0 – ₹4,00,0000%₹1,99,785₹0
Tax on slabs₹0
Add: 4% health & education cess₹0
Income tax payable₹0
Below the ₹4 lakh exemption

Your taxable income of ₹1,99,785 is under ₹4 lakh, the point where the first tax slab starts, so there is no slab tax at all and the rebate is not even needed.

Do you need to file an ITR on 3 LPA?

Not compulsorily. Your salary income after the standard deduction is about ₹1,99,785, below the ₹4 lakh basic exemption limit, so the law does not require you to file. I would still file a nil return each year. It costs nothing on the income tax portal, it is the only way to get back any TDS deducted by mistake, and banks treat a few years of ITRs as proof of income when you apply for a loan or credit card.

How to split ₹21,199 a month

A simple way to plan a take-home of ₹21,199 is the 50-30-20 split. It is a starting point, not a rule: in a metro, rent alone can eat most of the 'needs' bucket, while in a smaller city you may save far more.

BucketSharePer month
Needs (rent, groceries, bills, EMIs)50%₹10,599
Wants (eating out, travel, shopping)30%₹6,360
Savings and investments20%₹4,240

Keep in mind that you are already saving ₹3,000 a month through EPF before this budget even starts. Build an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses, about ₹63,596 to ₹1,27,193, before you lock money into long-term investments.

EMI and home-loan capacity at 3 LPA

When you apply for a loan, the bank will ask for your payslips, so it is the ₹21,199 take-home that counts. A common comfort zone is to keep all EMIs, including any car or personal loans, at 40% to 50% of that figure: about ₹8,480 to ₹10,599 a month.

As a rough illustration, an EMI of ₹8,480 supports a home loan of about ₹9,77,100 over 20 years at 8.5% interest. Your actual eligibility depends on your credit score, existing loans, employer category and the bank's own policy, so treat this as a ballpark, not an offer.

The formula, with your numbers

Basic = 50% × ₹3,00,000 = ₹1,50,000
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹18,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹7,215
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹2,74,785
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹1,99,785 → tax ₹0
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹18,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹0 = ₹2,54,385

Assumptions behind every number on this page:

  • Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
  • Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
  • Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
  • Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.
