Here is the short answer first: a 2.6 LPA CTC works out to roughly ₹17,577 a month in hand. 2.6 LPA means a cost to company of ₹2,60,000 a year, or ₹21,667 a month. The difference is not a hidden charge; it is mostly money set aside for your own future (PF and gratuity) plus statutory deductions, and I've broken each one down below.

I have assumed a typical post-Labour-Code salary structure: half the CTC as basic pay, PF of 12% on basic from both you and the employer, a 4.81% gratuity provision, ₹200 a month of professional tax, and the FY 2026-27 new tax regime (Budget 2026 did not change the slabs). If your offer letter is different, the calculator in the sidebar lets you change these.

2.6 LPA means how much per month?

LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 2.6 LPA is ₹2.6 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹21,667 a month of CTC, but only ₹17,577 a month actually lands in your account.

Per yearPer monthPer day (365)
CTC₹2,60,000₹21,667₹712
Gross salary₹2,30,651₹19,221₹632
In-hand salary₹2,10,921₹17,577₹578

Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹799 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹100 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

2.6 LPA salary breakup (monthly and yearly)

Read this table from top to bottom. The first block is money your employer spends on you but keeps out of your salary; what remains is the gross pay printed on your payslip. The second block is what gets deducted from that gross before the ₹17,577 reaches your account.

ComponentYearlyMonthly
CTC (2.6 LPA)₹2,60,000₹21,667
Employer PF (12% of basic)₹15,600₹1,300
Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic)₹6,253₹521
Employer ESIC (3.25% of gross)₹7,496₹625
Gross salary₹2,30,651₹19,221
of which Basic (50% of CTC)₹1,30,000₹10,833
of which HRA (40% of basic)₹52,000₹4,333
  of which Special allowance₹48,651₹4,054
Employee PF (12% of basic)₹15,600₹1,300
Employee ESIC (0.75% of gross)₹1,730₹144
Professional tax₹2,400₹200
Income tax (new regime, incl. cess)₹0₹0
In-hand salary₹2,10,921₹17,577

In plain terms, 81.1% of your CTC is spendable cash. Another 12.0% is saved for you in EPF (₹2,600 a month, earning 8.25%), and 2.4% is the gratuity provision you collect after five years with the employer. Only professional tax are true costs.

Why ESIC is deducted on 2.6 LPA

Because your gross pay is about ₹19,221 a month, which is under the ₹21,000 ceiling, you fall under the Employees' State Insurance scheme. You contribute 0.75% of gross (₹144 a month) and your employer adds 3.25% (₹625 a month) from within your CTC.

It is a deduction worth having: ESIC covers medical treatment for you and your family at ESI dispensaries and hospitals, cash benefits during certified sickness, and maternity benefit. Once your gross pay crosses ₹21,000 a month, ESIC stops at the end of the current contribution period and the deduction disappears from your payslip.

Is 2.6 LPA a good package?

2.6 LPA is an entry-level package, common for freshers in BPO and customer support roles, retail, junior office jobs, and first jobs in smaller cities. On ₹17,577 a month you can live reasonably in a tier-2 or tier-3 city, especially if you share accommodation, but it is tight in Mumbai, Bengaluru or Delhi NCR once rent is paid.

The more useful question is what comes next. The first two or three years are when hikes are largest in percentage terms, so certifications, a switch to a skill-heavy role, or a move to a larger employer can change the number quickly.

Is ITR filing mandatory at this income?

Not compulsorily. Your salary income after the standard deduction is about ₹1,55,651, below the ₹4 lakh basic exemption limit, so the law does not require you to file. I would still file a nil return each year. It costs nothing on the income tax portal, it is the only way to get back any TDS deducted by mistake, and banks treat a few years of ITRs as proof of income when you apply for a loan or credit card.

What a raise from 2.6 LPA really adds

A percentage hike on CTC does not translate one-to-one into your take-home, because PF grows with basic pay and tax can start or step up. Here is what common hikes would do to your monthly in-hand:

HikeNew CTCNew in-hand / monthChange / month
10% hike₹2,86,000₹20,200+₹2,623
20% hike₹3,12,000₹22,055+₹4,478
30% hike₹3,38,000₹23,909+₹6,333

When negotiating, compare offers on in-hand pay and on the fixed part of CTC. Variable pay, joining bonuses and ESOPs often sit inside the headline figure but are not guaranteed every month. You can try any number in the salary hike calculator.

3.6 LPA in-hand salary₹3,60,000₹25,479₹0

How this was calculated

Basic = 50% × ₹2,60,000 = ₹1,30,000
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹15,600; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹6,253
Gross = (CTC − employer PF − gratuity) ÷ 1.0325 = ₹2,30,651 (ESIC applies)
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹1,55,651 → tax ₹0
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹15,600 − ESIC ₹1,730 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹0 = ₹2,10,921

Assumptions behind every number on this page:

  • Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
  • Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
  • Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
  • Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.

If your company uses a different basic percentage or caps PF, put your own numbers into the CTC to in-hand calculator, or use the quick calculator on this page.
