If your offer letter says 19 LPA, the honest monthly figure is about ₹1,23,794, not ₹1,58,333. 19 LPA means a cost to company of ₹19,00,000 a year, or ₹1,58,333 a month, and around ₹34,540 of that never reaches you as cash each month. Below, I've worked through every rupee of the gap, line by line, so you can match it against your own payslip.
All figures below follow one consistent set of assumptions, so you can compare packages fairly: basic pay is 50% of CTC (the minimum share for 'wages' under the Labour Codes in force since November 2025), PF is 12% of basic on each side, gratuity is provisioned at 4.81% of basic, professional tax is ₹200 a month, and tax is worked out under the new regime for FY 2026-27.
19 LPA salary breakup (monthly and yearly)
Here is the 19 LPA package laid out the way it would appear if your HR team explained it line by line, with both yearly and monthly amounts so you can compare it directly with an offer letter or a payslip.
| Component | Yearly | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| CTC (19 LPA) | ₹19,00,000 | ₹1,58,333 |
| Employer PF (12% of basic) | ₹1,14,000 | ₹9,500 |
| Gratuity provision (4.81% of basic) | ₹45,695 | ₹3,808 |
| Gross salary | ₹17,40,305 | ₹1,45,025 |
| of which Basic (50% of CTC) | ₹9,50,000 | ₹79,167 |
| of which HRA (40% of basic) | ₹3,80,000 | ₹31,667 |
| of which Special allowance | ₹4,10,305 | ₹34,192 |
| Employee PF (12% of basic) | ₹1,14,000 | ₹9,500 |
| Professional tax | ₹2,400 | ₹200 |
| Income tax (new regime, incl. cess) | ₹1,38,383 | ₹11,532 |
| In-hand salary | ₹14,85,522 | ₹1,23,794 |
Of the gap between CTC and take-home, the largest piece is PF. You and your employer together put ₹2,28,000 a year into your EPF account, where it earns 8.25% (FY 2025-26 rate) and can be withdrawn tax-free after five years of service. The gratuity provision of ₹45,695 a year is paid out only if you stay at least five years, so treat it as a loyalty bonus rather than salary.
How much income tax is deducted on 19 LPA?
Tax is worked out on gross salary, not on CTC. Start with the gross of ₹17,40,305, take off the ₹75,000 standard deduction that every salaried person gets in the new regime, and you arrive at ₹16,65,305 of taxable income. That amount then runs through the FY 2026-27 slabs below.
| Taxable income slab | Rate | Income in slab | Tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹0 – ₹4,00,000 | 0% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹0 |
| ₹4,00,000 – ₹8,00,000 | 5% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹20,000 |
| ₹8,00,000 – ₹12,00,000 | 10% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹40,000 |
| ₹12,00,000 – ₹16,00,000 | 15% | ₹4,00,000 | ₹60,000 |
| ₹16,00,000 – ₹20,00,000 | 20% | ₹65,305 | ₹13,061 |
| Tax on slabs | ₹1,33,061 | ||
| Add: 4% health & education cess | ₹5,322 | ||
| Income tax payable | ₹1,38,383 |
That is an effective tax rate of 7.3% of your CTC, even though your top slab is 20%. Your employer deducts it as TDS spread evenly across the year, roughly ₹11,532 a month, and adjusts it in the last quarter once your investment proofs are in.
Old vs new tax regime at 19 LPA
The new regime is the default, and you have to opt out of it with your employer if you want the old one. The comparison below uses two old-regime cases: someone whose only investment is their EPF, and someone who fills the full 80C limit and pays ₹25,000 for health insurance. HRA exemption is left out because it depends on your rent and city.
| New | Old (PF only) | Old (full 80C + 80D) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard deduction | ₹75,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹50,000 |
| Other deductions | None | PT + PF ₹1,14,000 | PT + ₹1.5L 80C + ₹25k 80D |
| Taxable income | ₹16,65,305 | ₹15,73,905 | ₹15,12,905 |
| Income tax / year | ₹1,38,383 | ₹2,96,058 | ₹2,77,026 |
| In-hand / month | ₹1,23,794 | ₹1,10,654 | ₹1,12,240 |
The new regime wins here, and by a margin: even if you use the full ₹1.5 lakh of 80C and ₹25,000 of health insurance, the old regime still costs ₹1,38,643 more a year. To make the old regime cheaper you would need about ₹6,19,370 of total deductions (80C, 80D, HRA exemption, home-loan interest and so on, on top of the standard deduction and professional tax). That is realistic mainly if you pay high rent in a metro or are repaying a home loan.
Is 19 LPA a good package?
19 LPA is a senior-professional salary in India, typical of experienced engineers, managers and specialists. With a take-home of ₹1,23,794 a month, the real lever is no longer getting more salary but keeping more of it: tax planning, employer NPS and disciplined investing make a bigger difference at this level than small salary bumps.
Save tax with employer NPS (Section 80CCD(2))
The new regime removes almost every deduction, but one survives: your employer's contribution to NPS under Section 80CCD(2), up to 14% of basic pay. If your company offers it, you can ask HR to move part of your special allowance into NPS. At 14% of basic, that is ₹1,33,000 a year going into your retirement account instead of your salary.
| Current structure | With 14% employer NPS | |
|---|---|---|
| Income tax / year | ₹1,38,383 | ₹93,492 |
| In-hand / month | ₹1,23,794 | ₹1,16,451 |
| NPS contribution / year | ₹0 | ₹1,33,000 |
Your monthly cash goes down by ₹7,342, but you save ₹44,891 of tax a year and build ₹1,33,000 of retirement savings. The trade-off is liquidity: NPS money stays locked until 60, with only partial withdrawals before that. Note also that employer contributions to PF, NPS and superannuation together are tax-free only up to ₹7.5 lakh a year.
What a raise from 19 LPA really adds
Planning your next appraisal or a job switch? This is what 10%, 20% and 30% more on a 19 LPA CTC would actually put in your account each month, after the extra PF and any extra tax:
| Hike | New CTC | New in-hand / month | Change / month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10% hike | ₹20,90,000 | ₹1,34,329 | +₹10,536 |
| 20% hike | ₹22,80,000 | ₹1,44,808 | +₹21,014 |
| 30% hike | ₹24,70,000 | ₹1,54,589 | +₹30,796 |
When negotiating, compare offers on in-hand pay and on the fixed part of CTC. Variable pay, joining bonuses and ESOPs often sit inside the headline figure but are not guaranteed every month. You can try any number in the salary hike calculator.
19 LPA means how much per month?
LPA stands for lakh per annum, so 19 LPA is ₹19 lakh a year. Divided by 12, that is ₹1,58,333 a month of CTC, but only ₹1,23,794 a month actually lands in your account.
| Per year | Per month | Per day (365) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| CTC | ₹19,00,000 | ₹1,58,333 | ₹5,205 |
| Gross salary | ₹17,40,305 | ₹1,45,025 | ₹4,768 |
| In-hand salary | ₹14,85,522 | ₹1,23,794 | ₹4,070 |
Measured against working time, the in-hand pay is about ₹5,627 per working day (22 working days a month) or ₹703 an hour for an 8-hour day. That hourly figure is useful when you're weighing overtime, a side project or a freelance rate against your job.

How this was calculated
Employer PF = 12% × basic = ₹1,14,000; Gratuity = 4.81% × basic = ₹45,695
Gross = CTC − employer PF − gratuity = ₹17,40,305
Taxable (new regime) = gross − ₹75,000 = ₹16,65,305 → tax ₹1,38,383
In-hand = gross − employee PF ₹1,14,000 − PT ₹2,400 − tax ₹1,38,383 = ₹14,85,522
What this calculation assumes:
- Basic pay at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, the remainder as special allowance.
- Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC; no insurance premium, meal card or variable pay is assumed.
- Professional tax is taken as ₹200 a month (₹2,400 a year). It varies by state: Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh do not levy it, and Karnataka exempts gross pay up to ₹25,000 a month.
- Tax uses FY 2026-27 new-regime slabs, the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹12 lakh with marginal relief, surcharge where relevant and 4% cess.
If your company uses a different basic percentage or caps PF, put your own numbers into the CTC to in-hand calculator, or use the quick calculator on this page.
